Roots Hall, Southend United Football Club
Planning Permission is now resolved to grant.
Appointed to prepare a planning application with Environmental Statement for 502 residential units on existing SUFC football stadium site for 9 buildings between 2 and 8 storeys. The site will become redundant on the relocation of the football club to Fossetts Farm. A separate application with Environmental Statement has also been submitted by PowerHaus Consultancy across two planning authority boundaries (Southend and Rochford), for a new 21,000 seater stadium, with enabling retail, leisure, housing, hotel and soccer dome development (17/00733/FULM). The sites are financially linked to delivery of the new stadium.
The Roots Hall Stadium sits partially in a conservation area and adjacent to a Grade I listed church. Setting and preservation of character was critical to the design and scale of the development proposed. The scheme includes taller elements but using the topography of the site. The cumulative impacts of the scheme alongside the Fossetts Farm development have been critical on transport, heritage and design grounds.
